This vintage six-tube, three-speaker Superheterodyne radio is not only a stunning piece of craftsmanship but also delivers excellent sound quality with its dipole antenna for FM and internal ferrite aerial for AM reception. The cabinet retains its charming 65 years of patina, having been lightly sanded and stained without losing its character. After a thorough restoration, including cleaning, polishing, and replacing defective parts, the radio operates flawlessly with responsive controls for bass, treble, and volume, while the newly installed magic eye indicator shines brightly and is responsive to station changes on FM. The pressboard back is mostly intact, showcasing the radio's well-preserved condition and historical significance.
This Metz contains a built in AM ferrite antenna as well as a built in FM loop antenna. It is an Export model having the full FM range from 87.5 to 108 MHz It also has bass and treble tone adjustments, pushbutton tone settings, an external speaker connection, and a record player input which accepts any audio input such as Bluetooth, IPAD etc. with the use of a proper cable.
The radio measures 25.2 x 14.2 x 12.2 inches.
This cabinet is in ORIGINAL condition...NOT restored, but hand polished to look just the way it was back in 1957 with 65 plus years of patina added! I removed the chassis from the cabinet and cleaned and dusted everything, I tested the tubes, capacitors and resistors and anything that was not in acceptable ranges were replaced. The pushbutton assembly was cleaned with DeoxIT D5 and works nicely. The plastic trim, buttons and controls were cleaned and hand polished. I did replace the magic eye tuning tube with a fresh equivalent so it shines bright and responds well to station changes.
